Travel Season Wrap Up

The MBA would like to thank all of the parents, players and coaches for another successful youth travel basketball season in Madison!   Our boys and girls competed hard and grew as players throughout the season.  More important than wins and losses, our teams showed success by encouraging teamwork, building friendships and reflecting camaraderie.  This is what encourages the boys and girls to work at their games in the off season and participate again next season.  In response to many who ask how our teams did this year, some specific, impressive accomplishments from the 2015/16 season include the following:

  • Six Madison travel teams made it to the Final Four of their respective divisions in the JBA playoffs!
  • Madison boys’ teams that competed in the Red or White Divisions won nearly 70% of their regular season games with a combined win/loss record of 53 and 24!
  • Madison had 3 of its girls’ teams compete in the Red (highest) Division against larger, competitive towns.  These teams finished the regular season with an impressive 18-23 combined record.

Some specific, team highlights from this past season:

  • The 8th Grade Boys Maroon team finished its regular season 13-1 and won the 2015 Turkey Classic Championship at Drew University.
  • The 7th grade boys’ teams finished with a combined record of 16-11, the Maroon team made the finals of its Christmas Tournament at Drew University and the Gold team finished the regular season in 3rd place out of 10 teams in its JBA division.
  • The 6th Grade Boys’ Gold team made the final four in its divisional playoff run.
  • The evenly split 5th grade boys’ teams finished with a combined record of 17-8.  The Maroon team won its JBA division championship defeating Long Hill 46 to 43 over championship weekend.
  • The 4th Grade Boys Maroon team won the White Division regular season title with a 13-1 regular season record outscoring its opponents by a combined 304 points.
  • The 8th Grade Girls Maroon team finished a very successful multiple year run competing in the most competitive division, including 2 final four finishes in five years.  In an 8th grade division consisting of larger towns, the team finished 5-8.
  • Although split evenly, the 6th grade girls’ teams finished with a combined regular season record of 12-16 and represented 2 of the final 4 teams in their division playoffs.
  • The 4th Grade Girls Maroon team finished its first season with an impressive 6-6 regular season record including multiple wins versus perennial power house towns.

I know many are already on to spring sports.  Please remember to take a few minutes to provide any feedback about the season through our feedback tab on the website.  Also, please provide completed coach evaluation forms for those who participated in the travel season.  The blank form can be found on prior emails.

Look out for future skills development opportunities and the Summer League at Dodge Courts.
